TASTING NOTE: Wonderful lifted aromas of red apple, lime and ginger with a round, textural medium body. Notes of fresh peppery radish and green herbaceous tones making the wine wonderfully complex. Its got personality plus and utterly delicious. A perfect wine for Summer time Imbibing!
- ABOUT THE WINE: The 2024 growing season was stark contrast to 2023. A warm dry summer resulted in healthy yields of high quality fruit picked over three weeks earlier than 2023. The vintage was not without its challenges though, which began with greater than normal winter rainfall. In late October the tides turned and a significant frost event in Mount Barker caused major damage, however, the Gruner Veltliner vineyard was luckily unaffected. The resulting conditions made for ripe, balanced and full flavoured Gruner - arguably more complex than 2023. Whole bunch pressed straight into a 50/50 mix of old barrels and stainless steel tanks on full solids. Wild yeast fermentation then left on solids for an extended period. The wine was then matured in a combination of concrete, old puncheon and stainless steel before blending and bottling.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In 2017 winemaker Guy Lyons (Forest Hill) and his wife bought the Springviews vineyard on the south side of the dramatically beautiful Porongurup range in Great Southern and created their brand, Lowboi. Planted in 1985, the vineyard orientation is east-west and was established as a dry-grown site, although irrigation was added in '20 due to constant water pressure in the area. The soils are layered laterite gravels with loam and weathered granite. Planted on the south-facing slope is Riesling and Gingin clone Chardonnay. Their Grüner Veltliner comes from the Lyons family farm in Mount Barker (Forest Hill Vineyard). The ‘Lowboi’ name originates from the farm Lyons’ mother grew up on in the Great Southern shire of Tambellup.
