- TASTING NOTE: “Palish pink purple. A light and pretty floral raspberry nose. Half a crop, but all vinified on the premises with no purchases in wine. This is elegant, stylish, lightly oaked and long.” Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
- ABOUT THE WINE: The roll call this year includes Bourgogne-level fruit from Leroux’s key sources: the excellent Maison Dieu in Pommard; Mon Poulain in Volnay; and Belles Côtes in Meursault. In 2021 these sites are complemented by village wines from Saint-Romain and Monthélie. There were also a few barrels of Bourgogne from Vosne-Romanée, but in terms of style, it’s a Côte de Beaune Bourgogne through and through. This year, Leroux opted to use whole-bunch fermentation on the homegrown components of the blend only. Leroux has always made clear that his aim is to exceed expectations with his Bourgogne-level wines. Everything about this release—the fruit intensity, purity, structure and length—indicates that he’s succeeded once again. Maturation took place in 2,200-litre, Grenier oak casks, supported by a few 228-litre Burgundy barriques. There was next to no new oak used.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Benjamin Leroux is one of the most exiting modern producers in Burgundy. He created a name for himself at Domaine du Comte Armand (where he was appointed the general manager at just 24 years of age) before setting up his own negociant business in 2007. Today he owns or manages about 30% of the vineyards that go into his wines with his range of wines coming from across the Cote d'Or, from Chassagne-Montrachet to Gevrey-Chambertin. His own holdings are all certified organic (with many biodynamic principals also applied) with sourced vineyards sharing his own farming philosophy's. His winemaking is well known for his discreet handling of oak and purity of fruit expression.
