- TASTING NOTE: "A blend of savory herbs, black tea leaves and flowery underbrush defines the slightly muted bouquet of the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino. It’s soft-textured, with a supple wave of ripe red fruits and sweet spice contrasted by hints of sour citrus. A coating of fine tannins is left to resonate, as hints of cranberry and violet inner florals slowly taper off. There’s a good amount of fruit and acidity to balance the structure of the 2018, yet I’d recommend waiting for this to evolve more aromatically. - ABOUT THE WINE: Maceration for about 20 days, using the natural yeast from the grapes. Limited use is made of small barrels – big barrels are preferred. The Brunello spends a period of 42 months in 39-quintal oak barrels; a small proportion, about 15%, spends 12 months in barrique. The resultant wine is aged in bottle for a further 4 months.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The estate in Sant’Angelo is planted to 5.6 hectares of vines with a southern and southwestern exposure in one of the highest altitude areas of Brunello (500m asl). 2.6ha were planted by founder Giuseppe Anania in 1976, which continues to be the source for the Brunello, and a further 3ha by his son Luigi Anania, in 1999, which grapes are used to produce the Rosso di Montalcino. Both vineyards received organic certification from 2015. All grapes are hand-harvested and fully de-stemmed before fermentation with native yeasts. Wines are racked three times in the first year after harvest and once annually in subsequent years. All wines are bottled (by gravity), unfined and unfiltered. Importer notes
