- TASTING NOTE: "In 2022, the Steading blend is 50/31/19% grenache/shiraz/mataro and is the picture of the contemporary Barossan GSM. Red and blue fruits predominately, with a flash of blueberry and cranberry providing the high tones. Plenty of detail and delineation, the gingery spiced grenache and meaty-edged mataro clearly visible and simpatico with the shiraz fruit tones. There's some pith to the fine, sandy tannins and a mineral sapidity to its savoury endpoint. Great drinking. Consistently." 94 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: "The Steading is sourced from Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz vines that survived the worldwide phylloxera outbreak of the 1880s, and a century later, the vine-pull scheme in the Barossa in the 1980s. The wine is a result of the serendipitous discovery of small remnant patches of withered ancient vines, some well over a century old, that have been carefully nurtured back to life. The protection of this old vine resource of the Barossa Valley is central to the Torbreck story and this wine, more than any other, is an indication of what is possible from these historic cultivars. The Steading is a collection of 45 different sources of fruit, some from our own vineyard estates as well as from growers on a share-farming basis. These precious grapes are vinified separately and blended once their individual virtues have been assessed." Torbreck

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: First established by Dave Powell in the 1990's Torbreck Vintners was acquired in September 2013, wealthy Californian entrepreneur and vintner Peter Kight (of Quivira Vineyards). Talented winemaker Ian Hongell joined the team in '16. Shiraz (and other Rhône varieties) is the focus, led by The Laird, RunRig, The Factor and Descendant. Wines are unfined and unfiltered and there is a focus on protecting and spotlighting the old vine vineyards within the Barossa.
