TASTING NOTE: "Stevens Semillon is a special wine at Tyrrell's, which began making it in 1993 from a block owned by Neil and Bernadette Stevens. The wine inspired Bruce Tyrrell to develop a 'single site' range of wines. Tyrrell's cemented this wine's place within its portfolio by purchasing the block in 2022. The wine is in a sweet spot, with an expressive lemon curd aroma and a subtle smoky overlay. The palate exhibits the warmth of the vintage with delicious, subtle sweet pear and white peach flavours packed into a soft, cleansing palate. The wine is in its prime, with exceptional character and brightness." 96 Points - Toni Paterson, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: "Stevens Semillon comes from Neil Stevens’ Glen Oak vineyard on Marrowbone Road, our southern-most Semillon vineyard, which features a combination of light, sandy loams and darker, heavier transitional soils. The oldest plantings on this vineyard are from 1911. Vintage 2018 was a strong Semillon vintage in the Hunter Valley. Dry, warm conditions that were similar to 2003 meant cropping levels were smaller than average and produced wines of great concentration and length of flavour. Stevens Semillon is almost always the first Semillon vineyard that we pick, and this year was no different, taking place on 17 and 18 January with a machine harvester in the early hours of the morning. The grapes were then pressed lightly, and the free run juice was used for fermentation at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine stayed in these tanks until bottling in June." Tyrrell's

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: One of the most successful family wineries, a humble operation for the first 110 years of its life that has grown out of all recognition over the past 40 years. Vat 1 Semillon is one of the most dominant wines in the Australian show system and Vat 47 Chardonnay is one of the pacesetters for this variety. Tyrrell's has an awesome portfolio of single-vineyard semillons released when 5-6 years old. Halliday Wine Companion
