- TASTING NOTE: "Year in year out this cabernet delivers – even in difficult years such as 2021 (rain events and high humidity during harvest). If anything, this is quite tight and needs more time in the cellar, if you can’t wait, decant. It reveals an exuberant fruit profile, given its youth, from mulberries and cassis to blackberries all offset by complex savoury notes, think nori, iodine and tapenade, a flutter of spice, too and a little smoky. It’s fine boned in a way, as it’s just medium-bodied with filigree tannins, neat acidity and a radicchio bitterness to finish. I kept coming back to this wine – it unfurled in the glass but also, a few days later, still impressive." - 96 points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: The fruit for this wine was crushed and destemmed then fermented for 7-8 days, during which the cap was managed using a combination of pumping over as well as regular plunging by hand. After fermentation, 20% of the components experienced a period of extended maceration on skins before very gentle pressing. Malolactic fermentation took place in a combination of tank and barrel. The wine was matured for 14 months in French oak (40% new barriques) before the blend was assembled, prior to bottling. - Xanadu Wines

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Xanadu Wines was established in 1977 by Dr. John Lagan who planted the Lagan vineyard in that same year. This a is a relatively flat 17 hectares site with vines rooted in a deep, gravelly loam soil over clay which allows for free draining. The original varieties planted include Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The estate's property was expanded in 1999 with planting of 14 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and 33 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz on the Boodjidup Estate. In 2005 Xanadu Wines was purchased by the Rathbone family, further improving the quality of the wines through soil profiling, precision viticulture and reduced yields. With the acquisition of the Steven's Road vineyard in 2008 the quality of the wines has been consistently outstanding.
