- TASTING NOTE: "Pinot noir sourced from the White Rock vineyard, whole berries, matured in oak for 10 months. Bright ruby with aromas of crunchy red plum, red cherry and raspberry fruits with hints of fine spice, cocoa powder, forest floor, charcuterie, crushed herbs, purple flowers and stone. Savoury and fruit-pure with a lovely chalky palate presence and boundless energy." 94 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: Fruit from a single White Rock vineyard in the Northwest. Harvested on April 15th at 12.4 Baume. Whole berries were fermented in our trusty Milk Vat for 20 days. Gently pumped over once a day while the ferment was most active (5-6 times in total). It was pressed to and matured in oak for ten months (30% new). Bottled unfined and unfiltered

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes established Mewstone vineyard on the banks of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel in 2011. They produce expressive single site wines with a minimum of intervention in the winery. The vineyard is a former cherry orchard and with the new plantings the estate counts 5.2 hectares. The original planting consists mostly of pinot noir with small plantings of chardonnay, and Riesling. Jonny is the winemaker in this family venture. He studied winemaking in New Zealand before working in Langhorne Creek (South Australia), Central Otago (NZ), Mornington Peninsula (Victoria), Barolo (Italy), the Hunter Valley (New South Wales) and Okanagan Valley (Canada). Heading home to Tasmania, Jonny worked in various roles within the local wine industry, before settling in as the Assistant Winemaker at Moorilla in Hobart for seven years. Mewstone also makes wines under the Hughes & Hughes label.
