- TASTING NOTE: This deep purple wine from old hillside vines reveals a powerful nose of very ripe blackcurrant and black cherry, with a touch of spice from which its elegance and finesse can be attributed. The mouth is well built, dense, and succulent- with tannins softened by careful ageing techniques.
- ABOUT THE WINE: Les Marguerites comes from an exceptional single parcel (vines planted in 1936 and 1955) located on the backside of the Hermitage hill, just above the town of Crozes. Named Pierre Aiguille (Stone Needle), the vineyard is set in a natural amphitheatre, with triple exposure to the south, west, and east. Before Nancy and Julien took over the vines in 2012, the entire production was sold off to négociants. The organic transition was difficult for the vines, but they are seeing a real difference. The Cecillons officially became the owners of this parcel in 2020. The cuvée is named in honour of their mothers and grandmothers. 100% whole cluster, 2 week long maceration. Fermentation with native yeast, in stainless steel tanks with regular punch downs and pump overs. 18 months aging in 1-6 year old barrels (228L) and 7% new oak.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Cave Julien Cécillon was founded in 2011 and is the beloved project of winemakers Julien Cécillon and Nancy Kerschen. With vineyards in the appellations of Saint Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage in France’s Northern Rhone Valley, the estate is dedicated to producing elegant, terroir-driven wines. American Nancy Kerschen, and Julien Cécillon, a native of Tournon-sur-Rhône and nephew of Jean Louis Grippat, met through an enduring fascination with both wine and international travel. In 2011, having combined experiences working for various international wineries (Yves Cuilleron, Christophe Curtat, Fabrice Gripa, JC Cellars, Clos du Val, Saintsbury, Indevin and Saronsberg) the two decided to embark on their own winemaking endeavor. Cave Julien Cécillon is the product of that union. Respecting the unique environment of each appellation, the estate applies sustainable grape-growing techniques in the vineyard to achieve the best expression of terroir in every bottle. Based on their collective experiences, they blend modern techniques with old world traditions and growing methods to achieve well-structured, graceful, food-friendly wines.
