  • TASTING NOTE: "Incredibly fresh, to the point more citrus flavours come to the fore rather than oxidative complexity alone. A hint of florals, camomile with some preserved ginger spice on the palate. Nutty, mouth-watering aldehydes and burnt butter, with some wood tannins adding volume. The all-important distinct acidity of savagnin keeps this lively from the first sip to the last. Another excellent addition to the lineage of this style spearheaded by Crittenden." 97 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
  • ABOUT THE WINE: "Defying convention and looking to the great Vin Jaune wines of the Jura region in France for inspiration this wine was whole bunched pressed to old French barriques before natural fermentation and malolactic conversion. Following ferment the barrels were moved to a well ventilated shed (away from the winery proper) where conditions were perfect for the gradual growth of the flor yeast on the surface of the increasingly ullaged barrels. Amazingly this wine has not been topped for its entire 4 year ageing period, relying on the protective properties of the yeast voile to avoid excessive oxidation. Bottling took place in Nov 2023 without fining, stabilization or the addition of SO2."  Crittenden
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: "Garry Crittenden was a pioneer on the Mornington Peninsula, establishing the family vineyard over almost 40 years and introducing a number of avant-garde pruning and canopy management techniques. Much has changed – and continues to change – in cool-climate vineyard management. Crittenden has abandoned the use of synthetic fertilisers in the vineyard, focusing on biological soil health using natural tools such as compost and cover crops. Pinot noir and chardonnay remain the principal focus at the top tier, but they also produce some remarkable savagnin made under flor in the Jura style. In '15, winemaking returned to the family vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula in a newly built facility, with son Rollo in charge of the winemaking and general management and daughter Zoe overseeing marketing."  Halliday Wine Companion
