  • TASTING NOTE: "A fine-boned cabernet with dark fruit characters, malty inflections, cinnamon spice, sage leaf and briny elements in the roll call of descriptors. Sits on medium weight, a smudge of chewy tannin rolls through, flavoursome yet mellow with a general sense of freshness to finish. Not particularly complex, but the feel and restraint takes it a few pay grades up in life." 91 Points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
  • ABOUT THE WINE: After harvesting, the fruit was destemmed into a closed top fermenter, draining juice at the crusher to concentrate the must. After several days cold soaking, the must was allowed to warm and fermentation started with a selected yeast. The wine was pumped over 1-3 times daily and a further week of post ferment maceration occurred to develop tannin structure. After 20 days on skins the wine was pressed and drained to French Oak barrique and Hogshead (12% new) and aged for 14 months before being bottled - unfined with minimal filtration.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Duke’s Vineyard was established by renowned West Australian vigneron Ian (Duke) Ranson. Shiraz and cabernet sauvignon have been mainstays for the producer, but it is the rieslings from this estate that have soared over the years, with scintillating and long-lived expressions emerging. The baton was passed with Duke’s retirement, seeing winemaker Ben Cane and wife Sarah Date buy the property and brand in April ’22. Cane has been concerted in his approach to honouring Duke’s legacy, with no clear intent to change anything in the custodianship of the property and wines. Alongside the regional staples, pinot noir, chardonnay, gewürztraminer and sauvignon blanc have been planted to bring additional value to Duke’s Vineyard’s premier intent. Halliday Wine Companion
