  • TASTING NOTE: Luscious and captivating, with dark plums, cassis and subtle briar notes that demand your attention are backed by a stridently confident palate. The textural nature of this wine and glossy tannins are a work of art. Time will reward those who cellar this most complete Giaconda shiraz!
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Produced from fruit sourced from the Giaconda estate and the famed Warner vineyard in Beechworth. "This new shiraz wine represents an evolution in our wine making for this variety. This is a combination of wine matured in new and older small French oak, large 1600 LT French oak casks and long maceration on skins (10 months) in Spanish terracotta amphorae. This brings much more complexity and, especially, more depth and tannin from the long maceration." Rick Kinzbrunner
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Rick Kinzbrunner's Giaconda is one the icon's of Australian wine. Established in 1985 in Beechworth, in the foothills of the Victorian alps, Giaconda produces some of Australia's finest Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir, and is now making a name for itself for Nebbiolo too with a new vineyard near the Red Hill township. The estate is certified bio-dyanamic and the work in the cellar is similarly considered. Indigenous yeasts are employed for fermentation, natural bacteria for Malolactic fermentation, French oak barrel ageing, minimal sulphur additions, and no filtration before bottling. The winery, barrel maturation cave and bottling facility are all set up for gravity flow. This means the wines are very rarely pumped or manipulated mechanically. Instead they are gently moved by gravity or gas pressure during the entire wine making process. They produced no wine in 2020 due the bush fires and combined with very low yields in the following vintages, their wines are becoming harder and harder to find. Still Giaconda's wines are must for any serious cellar. They are Australian Grand Cru producers.
