- TASTING NOTE: A precise and fruity nose with a slight scent of sea-air. Aromas of cherry and lemon mingle with quince and bergamot. Then notes of hazelnut and almond, peach and mirabelle plum complete this wine’s range of aromas. On the palate: The initial sensation is a fine and intense effervescence, followed by a wonderful vinosity, and then balanced with delicate acidity. Its very fine texture and sea-air finish bring excellent length on the palate, accompanied by a delicate minerality and the complex flavours of orchard fruit and citrus. This wine unfurls gradually, revealing its full potential and intensity.
- ABOUT THE WINE: The Bollinger La Grande Année is the pinnacle of Bollinger’s Champagne styles and is produced only in the best years. Fruit is sourced entirely from Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyard sites in Champagne. The base wine was aged solely in old oak barrels, providing additional depth and nutty complexity. After secondary fermentation, the wine is aged on lees for more than five years before disgorgement and dosage at 8g/L. A vintage style, it can be enjoyed upon release or carefully cellared for up to 10 years.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Based in Aÿ, Bollinger has created prestigious champagnes since 1829. The Bollinger vineyards cover 179 hectares, most of which are classified Grand or Premier Cru with Pinot Noir the predominate variety. Continuity of style is ensured by an exceptional collection of over 800,000 reserve magnums and the best crus are vinified in wood thanks to a stock of 4,000 small, aged casks maintained by the in-house cooper. The house lets its wines mature for twice as long as the appellation requirement. A prominent brand in popular culture, the house is well known as the Champagne of choice of James Bond and was first featured in the fourth James Bond novel Diamonds Are Forever in 1956. It's most famous wines are the single vintage La Grand Anneé and R.D. and the Vieilles Vignes Françaises Blanc de Noirs, which is produced from two Grand Cru plots of pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir, adjacent to the house in Aÿ.
