- TASTING NOTE: The 2012 has a very pure bouquet that unveils wild strawberries, red cherries, black plums and blackcurrant. It continues developing with spicy and earthy notes as well as a beautiful saline minerality. Medium-bodied with ripe, mouth-coating tannins, it has great energy, freshness and concentration. The finish is long with an elegant stoniness.
- ABOUT THE WINE: 2012 was a difficult but ultimately rewarding vintage for Sylvain Pitiot and Domaine du Clos de Tart. Yields were barely half of a normal crop due to frost in May. Some lots were completely destemmed and others were fermented in whole clusters. Thick skins and tiny berries resulted in a wine much more structured than the previous vintage.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The Grand Cru monopole Le Clos de Tart has only ever had four owners since 1141. The Mommessin family owned it from 1932 until 2017 when it was sold to Francois Pinault's Artemis group. Sitting alongside the famed Grand Cru of Bonnes Mares in Morey-St-Denis, It is today considered one of the great terroirs of the Cote d'Or. The quality of the wines produced from the vineyard had been inconsistent until the arrival in 1996 of Sylvain Pitiot, who mapped out the vineyard in detail, both geologically and by vine age and re-equipped the winery in order to vinify the different climats of the vineyard separately. Since 2019 the Domaine has been run by Alessandro Noli, whose progressive winemaking is moving the style of wine produced here towards ever greater precision and finesse. The handling is now considerably gentler, utilising foot treading, and Noli has significantly reduced the level of new oak in the maturation of the Clos de Tart and its second wine La Forge de Tart.
