- TASTING NOTE: "The 2019 Cepparello is super-impressive, even though it has just been bottled. Ample and creamy, with its classic sense of mid-weight structure, the 2019 has so much to offer. Silky tannins wrap around a core of red/purplish berry fruit. New leather, spice and a hint of oak meld together effortlessly in the glass. I can't wait to check in on it in another 6-12 months or so. The 2019 is shaping up to be positively stellar." 96 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

ABOUT THE WINE: The wine is made from a top selection of the estate’s best fruits from the vineyards in Barberino Val d’Elsa in the northern part of Chianti Classico. After crushing, the must fermented on the skins in oak ats for about three weeks at 30-32°C, with delestage and pumping over carried out twice a day to give good colour and soft tannins. The maceration tank was emptied of the fermenting must, the cap was dried out for 4-5 hours and then the must was poured back over the cap. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked into barrels. It was 100% barrel-aged, a third in new French and American oak (with American barrels making up 5% of the total), a third in one year old oak and the remaining third was put into two year old oak. The wine remained in barrel for 20 months and then matured in bottle for one year before release.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In the 1950s, the father of owner and winemaker Paolo de Marchi purchased the adjoining hamlets of Isole and Olena and their estates in the Tuscan commune of Barberino Val d'Elsa. Paolo entered the business in 1976 and the quality of the estates wines improved rapidly after decades of sharecropping. Di Marchi is one of the regions kings of the Sangiovese grape, at a time when Chianti was a blended wine it was he that stepped out to produce wines that were 100% Sangiovese. The wine, the true embodiment of the word Super Tuscan, is the Cepparello IGT which has gone on to become an iconic wine and a benchmark for the region. The estate also produces stunning Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chianti Classico. Paolo sold the estate in 2022, and plans to focus on the families other winery business in Alto Piedmont, Proprieta-Sperino, which is run by his son Luca.
