- TASTING NOTE / ABOUT THE WINE: Low yielding Cabernet Sauvignon picked from 50-year-old vines in Vine Vale, offers deep purples and blue fruit with a cedary undertone from 2-year-old french oak hogsheads made in Cognac region of France. This wine spends 16 months in barrel to soften the chewy Cabernet tannins. A small addition of Cabernet Franc and Malbec adds complexity and structure, thus this bordeaux blend harnesses the class and structure of the Barossa while maintaining finesse and balance. Drink now or cellar for the next 15 years.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Sigurd has a history steeped in winemaking. Dan's father was a winemaker, his family based in the winegrowing area of Yenda, in New South Wales' Riverina. Following a story of his own, Dan has been redefining the Barossa Valley since 2012. Working alongside some larger labels in his home region, Dan completed a double degree in viticulture and winemaking at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga before spending vintages in Central Otago, Canada, Portugal, Hermitage in France's Rhone Valley and in Barolo, Italy. He then returned to work at a larger concern in the Barossa before joining RedHeads Wines in 2014, helping to reinvigorate the winemaking and brand. In 2017, he left to dedicate himself to his Sigurd label fulltime, following it's launch in 2012. Although Graham landed in the Barossa after his travels, it wasn't his first choice as a region, confessing that he actually drove a parcel of Grenache fruit up from McLaren Vale to make the first Sigurd wine. But after slowly making contacts through winemaking and being able to source fruit, the experimentation of trying a different style to the traditions of the Barossa gained traction.
